FOR THE CHICKEN & BROTH

I ALMOST GAVE UP ON CHICKEN & DUMPLINGS… 😳

I had the chicken already boiled and was ready to make supper when I realized I was missing several of the ingredients I normally use for my dumplings.

I thought, “Well… I guess we’re having something else tonight.”

Then my kids started begging me to make the dumplings anyway. ❤️

So I opened the pantry, used what I had, and decided to just wing it.

Y’ALL… I THINK I ACCIDENTALLY CREATED MY NEW FAVORITE DUMPLINGS! 😋

They came out soft, tender, buttery, and full of that homemade chicken flavor.

Here’s what I used:

🍗 FOR THE CHICKEN & BROTH

  • 1 boiled hen
  • 1 stick butter
  • Salt & pepper
  • Extra chicken broth
  • Chicken bouillon for extra flavor

🥣 FOR THE DUMPLINGS

  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • About 3/4 stick softened butter
  • About 1/2 cup whole milk
  • About 1/2–3/4 cup hot chicken broth
  • Salt & pepper

I cut the butter into the flour, added the milk and hot broth, and mixed until a soft dough formed.

It was a little sticky, so I worked in some extra flour. Then I pinched off little pieces and dropped them right into the simmering broth.

No fancy recipe.
No perfect measurements.
Just good old-fashioned cooking with what I had on hand.

And somehow… they turned out PERFECT. ❤️

Now I just have one problem…

I HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THEM THE SAME WAY AGAIN! 😂
