šŸŒā¤ļø THE 50+ YEAR-OLD WEST VIRGINIA HOT DOG CHILI RECIPE

Some recipes are delicious… but others bring back a lifetime of memories. ā¤ļø

This is my grandmother’s authentic West Virginia hot dog chili recipe, passed down for more than 50 years. It’s simple, old-fashioned, and packed with that classic flavor we grew up loving!

🌭 INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 3 cans water
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1½ tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Optional:

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

šŸ‘©ā€šŸ³ DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine:
Add all ingredients to a large pot.
  2. Don’t brown the beef:
Simply break it up in the pot and mix everything together.
  3. Simmer:
Cook slowly over low heat for about 1½ hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. Serve:
Spoon the chili generously over hot dogs and add your favorite toppings. 🌭

ā¤ļø A FAMILY RECIPE WORTH KEEPING

My grandmother used to write ā€œhamburgā€ instead of hamburger and ā€œcatsupā€ instead of ketchup. Those little details are part of what makes this recipe so special.

Every time I make it, I’m reminded of summer visits, her front porch, and the little recipe cards I copied from her collection.

Some recipes feed your family.

Others feed your memories. ā¤ļø
