Ingredients

For the Brownies

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup sour cream

For the Brown Butter Glaze

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract and mashed bananas.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the sour cream. Mix just until combined.
  6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 22–28 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. While the brownies bake, melt the butter for the glaze in a saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking until it turns golden brown and smells nutty, about 4–5 minutes.
  9. Remove from the heat and whisk in the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  10. Pour the warm glaze over the warm brownies and spread evenly.
  11. Let the glaze set completely before slicing into squares.
