đź›’ Ingredients (Makes 4 Burgers)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20)
  • 2 large yellow onions, very thinly sliced
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 4 soft burger buns
  • 2 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)

Optional Toppings

  • Pickles
  • Mustard
  • Ketchup
  • Burger sauce

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Divide the ground beef into 8 equal balls (about 2 oz each). Do not press them into patties.
  2. Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat until very hot.
  3. Place the beef balls on the hot surface and immediately top each with a generous handful of thinly sliced onions.
  4. Using a sturdy spatula, firmly smash the beef and onions into a thin patty.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  6. Cook for about 2–3 minutes until the edges become deeply browned and crispy.
  7. Flip each patty so the onions cook against the griddle.
  8. Place a slice of American cheese on every patty and cook for another 1–2 minutes until melted.
  9. Stack two cheesy patties together for each burger.
  10. Butter and lightly toast the burger buns.
  11. Assemble the burgers on the toasted buns and add your favorite toppings if desired.
  12. Serve immediately with fries, chips, or a cold drink.
