Old-Fashioned 7-Up Biscuits

These classic Southern 7-Up Biscuits are soft, fluffy, buttery, and incredibly easy to make. The lemon-lime soda helps create light, tender layers while the sour cream adds richness and moisture. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or alongside your favorite comfort-food meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup 7-Up or any lemon-lime soda
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • Extra Bisquick or flour for dusting

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Pour the melted butter into an 8×8-inch baking dish and spread it evenly across the bottom.

Step 2: Make the Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the Bisquick and sour cream.
  • Use a fork or pastry cutter to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Slowly pour in the 7-Up and gently stir until a soft dough forms.
  • The dough will be slightly sticky; this is normal.

Step 3: Shape the Biscuits

  • Lightly dust a clean surface with Bisquick or flour.
  • Turn the dough out onto the prepared surface.
  • Gently knead 3–4 times until it comes together.
  • Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1 inch thick.
  • Using a biscuit cutter or a floured drinking glass, cut out biscuits.

Step 4: Arrange in the Pan

  • Place the biscuits directly into the baking dish on top of the melted butter.
  • Position them so the sides are touching slightly; this helps them rise taller and stay soft.

Step 5: Bake

  • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  • If you prefer a deeper golden color, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end, watching carefully.

Step 6: Serve

  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes.
  • Brush with additional melted butter if desired.
  • Serve warm with honey, jam, sausage gravy, or simply enjoy them plain.
